We won the 2024
Daytona 24 Hour Event

Slipstream Autosport esport team shocked the world by winning the iRacing 7am GMT Top Split Daytona 24 hour event on debut.

The 2024 special events on iRacing kicked off with the Daytona 24 hour event.

Over 100,000 drivers tried to win this race. Our team competed in the 7am GMT Top Split. Our driver line up was made up of Josh Purwien, James Paschalis, Tom Katsidonis, Ivan Vantagiato and reserve driver Alex Spinozzi.

Tom Katsidonis qualified our team and did the first 3 hours of the race. During this time he set a consistent pace.  The first 3 hours were tough on our team with early contact twice saw us finish the first hour in 14th place and far away from the leaders.

During the next 8 hours James and Josh put in an impressive faultless performance to bring us back into contention. At one stage running in 3rd place. At 5am local time inAdelaide Ivan Vantagiato took the wheel of the Slipstream Autosport Porsche GT3 car setting a consistent pace until lap 437 where disaster struck the team. With GTP cars lapping Ivan he moves to the inside but did not see a car coming out of the pits causing a big crash and over 3 minutes of repairs. This put us 2 laps down on the leaders and now in 5th place.

The team worked hard to get back in contention and with one hour to go was back up to 3rd place. Which would already have been a huge achievement. With 55 minutes to go the car in the lead crashes causing them a pitstop that would see them drop back to 5th place.

The car in the lead was over 30 seconds in front. It was the brilliant work in the final stages of Josh Purwien that saw the team gain on the leading car and ultimately winning this race.

It was the most epic final 55 minutes of an endurace race and we can’t wait to see what this team can achieve at future events.
